OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The head of the union that represents track maintenance workers says Union Pacific is jeopardizing safety by delaying nearly 1,200 planned projects until next year and laying off more than 1,000 workers.The president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division union has been sending letters to regulators for more than a month raising concerns about the layoffs, but the railroad is defending the move and the Surface Transportation Board hasn’t intervened. “Chaos and disruption with Union Pacific’s Maintenance of Way forces can only lead to one outcome — deferred maintenance and catastrophic outcomes,” Tony Cardwell, who leads the union, said in his letters. “These furloughs will affect the safety of Union Pacific operations and pose serious safety risks for the general public and the communities surrounding Union Pacific’s infrastructure.”Union Pacific said the decision to delay these projects is a reflection of the fact that the railroad went ...Man shot, killed on Gaylord St. Thursday

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Police Department is now investigating a shooting that happened Thursday as a homicide.DPD said officers were investigating a shooting in the 800 block of Gaylord Street Thursday evening. Federal grand jury indicts 2 women in $14M fraud scheme Police said one victim was found and, at the time, the extent of the victim's injuries was unknown. Police were working to develop suspect information Thursday evening.Just before 1 p.m. Friday, DPD provided an update and said the victim, a man, had died of his injuries. DENVER (KDVR) -- A red truck that Wheat Ridge police have been seeking in connection with a deadly shooting Wednesday was located Friday, the department told FOX31.The truck is currently undergoing "meticulous forensic testing," but police would not say where the vehicle was found. (CNN) — Orange fingernail polish helped investigators identify a missing 17-year-old whose remains were found Tuesday in the backyard of her neighbor’s home in Indiana, authorities said.Valerie Tindall’s family reported her missing on June 8, more than five months earlier, the Rush County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post.Patrick Scott, 59, who lives behind the Tindalls, was arrested and charged with murder after admitting to killing her on June 7, according to a criminal homicide report. Scott also was charged with obstruction of justice and giving false information to a law enforcement officer, according to charging documents.The court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf on Thursday, records show. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Unit is seeking the public’s help in finding Janay Ruby Campbell, a 28-year-old woman missing from Pompano Beach.Campbell was last seen around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, in the vicinity of the 200 block of Northeast 24th Avenue in Pompano Beach. She was wearing a blue hoodie and blue pants at the time, according to detectives. A judge has not yet reached a decision as to whether Derek Rosa, a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his mother, will remain at an adult jail facility or will be transferred to a juvenile detention center pending his trial. Rosa currently remains at Metro West Detention, an adult facility that opened a juvenile wing in October. He is one of 34 young inmates at the facility and is the youngest. The other 33 inmates are between 16 and 17 years old.During the hearing on Friday, Rosa’s attorneys made their case to have the teenager moved to a juvenile-only facility. His attorneys spend most of the afternoon asking questions about every aspect of his life while he was behind bars at the Metro West. The person responsible for slashing an Israeli flag sign outside Bagel Time Cafe in Miami Beach has been arrested, according to 7News sources.
