DENVER (KDVR) — Denver is preparing to build 11 micro-communities to house the homeless, with construction on the first one slated to begin this week on Santa Fe Drive.The project is part of Mayor Mike Johnston’s plan to house a thousand unhoused residents by the end of 2023. The new micro-community at 2301 S. Santa Fe Dr. will provide communal restrooms, shared kitchens, laundry rooms and trash removal.“I’ve looked at the pallet homes online, and they look like they would be decent places to live,” Jack Unruh, of the Overland Neighborhood Association, told FOX31. ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — A family is mourning a 16-year-old Denver girl who lost her life in a single-car crash early Saturday morning.The crash happened on eastbound Interstate 70 at Interstate 76. The driver tried to switch highways at the last minute, causing the rollover crash. All passengers were ejected, but only Mariah died.Her grandfather, Ron Garcia, said Mariah was loved by anyone she came into contact with and had a good head on her shoulders."It's hard every time you think about it. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A car rammed into the Chinese consulate in San Francisco on Monday, coming to a stop in the lobby and creating a chaotic scene that ended with police shooting the driver, who later died at the hospital, officials said.Police descended on the consulate building after 3 p.m. on a report of a vehicle crashing into the building and urged people to avoid the area. (AP) — Federal officials have issued a warning about a substantial safety violation at a South Carolina nuclear plant after cracks were discovered again in a backup emergency fuel line.Small cracks have been found a half-dozen times in the past 20 years in pipes that carry fuel to emergency generators that provide cooling water for a reactor if electricity fails at the V.C.
