JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A transgender girl in Mississippi is not participating in her high school graduation ceremony because school officials told her to dress like a boy and a federal judge did not block the officials’ decision, an attorney for the girl’s family said Saturday.Linda Morris, staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union’s Women’s Rights Project, said the ruling handed down late Friday by U.S. District Judge Taylor McNeel in Gulfport, Mississippi, “is as disappointing as it is absurd.”“Our client is being shamed and humiliated for explicitly discriminatory reasons, and her family is being denied a once-in-a-lifetime milestone in their daughter’s life,” Morris said. “No one should be forced to miss their graduation because of their gender.”The ACLU confirmed that the 17-year-old girl — listed in court papers only by her initials L.B. — would skip the Saturday ceremony for Harrison Central High School in Gulfport, about 160 miles (260 kilom...Shark in Florida Keys bites angler who reeled it in, sending man to hospital

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Ex-U.S. Rep. Mark Walker formally entered next year’s race for North Carolina governor on Saturday, saying that he’s best suited to win the seat that has eluded Republicans for much of the past three decades, by attracting a diverse set of voters in the closely divided state. Walker, a former Baptist pastor who rode the Tea Party wave to three terms in Congress, made the announcement to a crowd of 300 at a church in Kernersville. If elected, he said he would provide a bulwark to federal policy intrusions, promote educational opportunity and economic freedom, and protect families and children on cultural issues. He said he had a history, in both the pulpit and in Congress, of building bridges with unaffiliated and Democratic voters. He’s been known for his efforts to work with minority groups, particularly on funding historically Black colleges. Black supporters were featured prominently at the announcement event.“You’re fearfully and wonderfully ...El Consejo Coordinador Empresarial expresa su preocupación por el futuro de la inversión en México

MIAMI (AP) — Jimmy Butler is Miami’s leader this postseason in points, minutes, assists and steals per game. He’s the sommelier at team dinners. He’s the barista when it’s time for coffee. If all that wasn’t enough, he’s also the DJ.When music blares in the Heat locker room, Butler is almost always in charge. Could be gospel, could be Whitney Houston, could be Nickelback and — as it was after Miami’s 111-105 win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals — it could be Morgan Wallen, whose song “Somebody’s Problem” has become a Heat anthem.Wallen’s song is not about basketball, though that’s completely irrelevant to the Heat. These days, Butler is Somebody’s Problem. In fact, he’s Everybody’s Problem. And the Boston Celtics are running out of time to find a solution.Game 3 of the East finals is Sunday night, with the eighth-seeded Heat leading 2-0 after stunning almost everyone but themselves by going into Boston and winning the first two games of the series — puttin...Everton grabs last-minute equalizer in fight for EPL survival

WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) — Yerry Mina’s dramatic leveler at Wolverhampton earned Everton a valuable point in its fight for English Premier League survival on Saturday. The defender struck from close range in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time to grab a 1-1 draw and give the Toffees hope after Hwang Hee-chan’s first-half goal for Wolves.Everton’s 69-year stay in the top-flight remains in doubt and Sean Dyche’s side could still find itself in the drop zone before next week’s finale.Leeds visits West Ham on Sunday before Leicester’s trip to Newcastle on Monday and victory for both would lift them above Everton. As it is, Everton sits two points above the bottom three ahead of the visit of Bournemouth next Sunday.Everton struggled for long spells and again lost Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury. Calvert-Lewin, who came off in last week’s defeat to Manchester City with a groin problem, limped off in first-half stoppage time.It will spawn a nervous Goodison Park, whi...Nantes in relegation trouble after loss to Montpellier

PARIS (AP) — Changing coach has made no difference yet for Nantes, which stayed in the French league relegation zone after losing at home to Montpellier 3-0 on Saturday.Nantes fired Antoine Kombouaré with four games remaining and replaced him with the reserves coach. But the side has picked up only one point in two games since.Nantes fell behind in the 38th minute when Téji Savanier set up fellow midfielder Jordan Ferri with a long pass.Striker Arnaud Nordin made it 2-0 in the 47th with an angled drive into the bottom left corner. Defender Falaye Sacko completed the scoring late on to leave eight-time French champion Nantes in 17th place with four teams going down this season and only two rounds remaining.Later Saturday, Marseille was looking to win at Lille to overtake Lens and move into second place for the automatic Champions League position.
