Kyle Gibson on Saturday wasn’t the pitcher the Orioles paid $10 million for this offseason. He was much more than that.Gibson, an 11-year veteran with a reputation as a pitch-to-contact innings-eater, struck out 11 batters to tie his career high in the Orioles’ 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. The 35-year-old right-hander allowed just two hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings to continue Baltimore’s streak of stupendous outings from its starters. The start is easily Gibson’s best as an Oriole. The only run he allowed was a home run with one out in the seventh. His 6 1/3 innings before the solo homer extended the scoreless streak by Orioles starters to 30, and the quality start was the club’s fourth straight, joining Dean Kremer, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells. The Orioles have allowed just two runs in their previous four games. The win is the Orioles’ fifth straight and ninth in their past 11 games. Ramón Urías led Baltimore (13-7) offensively wi...‘It just hasn’t gone our way’: Chicago White Sox fall 7 games under .500 with a 4-3 lost to the Tampa Bay Rays in 10 innings

All eyes were on the mound Saturday with aces Dylan Cease starting for the Chicago White Sox and Shane McClanahan for the Tampa Bay Rays.Cease, the 2022 American League Cy Young runner-up, battled into the fifth inning before exiting because of a high pitch count.McClanahan, who was sixth in last year’s AL Cy Young voting, displayed a changeup that kept Sox batters off-balance throughout his six innings.Neither factored in the decision, and for the second straight game the Rays walked off the Sox.This time Randy Arozarena did in the Sox, driving in pinch runner Vidal Bruján with a single to right to give the Rays a 4-3 victory in 10 innings in front of 22,333 at Tropicana Field.“We are playing hard, we are competing, we had a chance to win both games (in the series),” Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. “We’ve got a good team. I’m not going to question anything here. We prepare. We’ve just got to keep doing what we are doing. That’s it...Do you know these common misconceptions about Earth?

FORT COLLINS — Colorado State sophomore quarterback Clay Millen is a year older and a year wiser after taking his lumps as a freshman starter last season. The Washington native and Nevada transfer has shown glimpses this spring of how much he has improved, and he put his progression on display Saturday in CSU’s annual Green and Gold Game at Canvas Stadium to conclude spring practices. The game’s format of “1s vs. The World” started with Millen and the rest of CSU’s starters behind by 21 points. By halftime, the 1s had made up the deficit and led 27-24.They went on to win, 34-24.Millen, one of the national leaders in completion percentage last year, completed 11 of 16 passes for more than 180 yards. BOULDER — Lord help the Buffs if Peggy Coppom ever jumps into the transfer portal. The best kick of a sold-out CU spring football game broadcast nationally by ESPN came from a right leg that’s two years short of 100. In a sweet touch that shows just how much Deion Sanders gets it — a spring football tilt that isn’t between two different schools is all about the show, not the stats — Coach Prime escorted Coppom like a prom date to a tee at the 35-yard-line.One of the greatest defensive backs that ever lived then leaned down gently with her so that the 98-year-old Buffs superfan, left hand waving a gold pom-pom, right hand clutching Sanders tight, could officially kick off the first spring game of the Prime Era.Two bounces. Four yards. Thousands of eyes getting misty. Fan service for the best dang fan imaginable.“Peggy was the MVP of the game,” Sanders said later. “She was quick, the first step was unbelievable. She was very physical. When she grabbed me and made sure I had...Suspect wanted for slashing victim at McDonald's in Rancho Cucamonga
