Yankees infielder David John LeMahieu is not a curtain call kind of guy. He’s not crazy about swarms of TV cameras, either. So the former Rockies All-Star second baseman was out of his comfort zone Friday when he returned to Coors Field for the first time since 2018.About three hours before the game, LeMahieu sat in the visitors’ dugout, surrounded by reporters and cameras, as he fielded questions. How did he feel about returning to the ballpark he called home from 2012 to ’18? “Weird, but overall it’s good to be back here.”LeMahieu made it clear that he valued his time in Colorado, where he evolved from a part-time player into one of the best — although underrated — second basemen in baseball. He helped the Rockies make the playoffs in 2017 and ’18, the only time in franchise history they’ve made the postseason in back-to-back seasons.“It’s a special place for me,” he said. “I feel like I learned a lot as a playe...'They killed my daughter': Unhoused woman dies after being run over by landscaping equipment

(KTXL) — An organization that supports the unhoused and a family are heartbroken after a landscaping contractor hired by the city of Modesto allegedly drove over and killed a woman who was laying in a field of overgrown vegetation."I feel terrible because they killed my daughter," said Christopher Chavez, the father of 27-year-old Christine, who was unhoused and died Saturday, the day when workers driving a John Deere tractor with a pull-behind mower were cleaning up Beard Brook Park. Christopher said that he immediately went to the spot where his daughter died after learning about her death."There were many pieces of (her remains) around there and I called the police," Chavez said. "I went there and I still have pieces of bones, like pieces of her skull and some teeth. It's terrible." OAKLAND – An innocuous-looking item sat on a shelf in Zack Gelof’s locker, another baseball in a stadium full of them. Of course, this was no normal piece of memorabilia: it was the ball that the 2021 second-round draft pick had smacked into a gap for an RBI double on Friday night, the first hit of his career. It won’t stay at the second baseman’s locker for long, with the ball’s final destination being his family’s home in Delaware. “I’ve got it here in my locker,” the 23-year-old said as he glanced at the ball, “and I’m gonna give it to them today.” The rookie’s mom Kelly, dad Adam and brother Jake, who was just drafted by the Dodgers in the second round earlier this week were all in the stands on Friday night to cheer for their son and the A’s. Their presence meant even the sting of Oakland’s loss couldn’t take away Gelof’s joy from his debut.“It meant everything to me for them to be here,” Gelof said. “They deserve it all.”Gelof is one of two highly-touted prospects the A’...San Mateo woman kidnapped in Mexico released by captors
