But some teachers-in-training pushed to make sure that didn’t happen in this year’s 90-day legislative session.Part of the work behind Gov. Wes Moore’s Maryland Educator Shortage Reduction Act (House Bill 1219), which goes into effect Saturday, began last year with conversations among Maryland college students at the National Education Association’s Aspiring Educators Conference in Chicago.Marieme Ndiaye, who attended the annual conference, said she and other education majors spent thousands of dollars on gas, food, clothing and classroom materials while enrolled in unpaid internships. DENVER (KDVR) -- Police in Brighton said there was a fatal crash involving a pedestrian Friday morning.According to a tweet from Brighton Police Department, there was a crash between a motorist and a pedestrian on Interstate 76.It happened near the E-470 ramp on Eastbound I-76 Monday morning.One lane was closed to traffic for police to investigate, they said.Police advised alternate routes for anyone who might be commuting Friday morning.No further details were immediately released. A large police presence in Miami Gardens after a victim said a man stole his vehicle and crashed it before fleeing on foot. Police responded to the area of Northwest 167th Street and Northwest 32nd Avenue, Friday. A perimeter was set up by Miami Gardens and Opa-locka police as they continue to search for the suspect. Two young children were found unresponsive after Hollywood Police officers arrived at the scene in reference to reports of a drowning incident in a pool. 7Skyforce hovered over the pool of a house located at 6441 Meade Street where the police department and local fire rescue crews worked to save the young drowning victims. The two children were transported to DiMaggio Children’s Hospital where their condition is unknown at this time. While authorities from the Hollywood Police Department investigate the incident thoroughly, there is currently no evidence to suggest any criminal involvement. A 15-year-old from Taunton is now facing charges in connection with incidents of racist and homophobic vandalism at a home and a synagogue in Taunton earlier this month, police announced Thursday. The incident happened on June 16 when police said officers initially responded to a home on Everett Street for a report of vandalism. Once on scene, police said officers found homophobic and racist graffiti on a car and a recycling bin. While officers were on Everett Street, police said they received additional reports of vandalism at the Congregation Agudath Achim of Greater Taunton on nearby Winthrop Street. At the synagogue, police said they found a swastika and “other hateful references” spray-painted on a wall.Police said the handwriting in both the graffiti on Everett Street and the graffiti at the synagogue appeared similar.
